Unhappy HP OJ-G55 Printer/Scanner USB not recognized by Fedora FC2

I have just loaded Fedora FC2 on a 1999 IBM Aptiva p3-500 machine. I want to use it as a home server for file sharing and printing among other things.

I have an HP OfficeJet G55 all-in-one scanner/copier/printer attached to the system via USB. It works just fine on my Windows 98 OS that I run on that same machine.

When I start up the Fedora system and look for the printer, it is not there. I was advised at LinuxWorld to use USBVIEW to see what is attached to the USB ports, but can't even find that ...

$ whereis usbview
usbview:
$ apropos usbview
usbview: nothing appropriate

So it seems that I don't have that installed either.

My questions:

1. Does anyone have an HP all-in-one running on FC2 successfully?
2. Did I make an error on the installation of FC2 such that some of the important stuff is missing?
3. Any ideas how to proceed?

My wife is getting miffed at not having a printer available. My home network will have a MacOS X system, and two Windows XP systems using the services of the Linux machine.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Look here http://www.sane-project.org/sane-supported-devices.html to see if it is supported.

The hpoj service will handle the hp all-in-ones. I had a PSC750 working under Core1 before the scanner died. It was fully functional.

You will want to install hpoj and libsane-hpoj. hpoj is a service and will need to be started.

hi linuxnewbie24, welcome to lq. i had a look at this

http://www.linuxprinting.org/show_pr...-OfficeJet_G55

and found this

Quote:
For printing via USB you NEED to set up this printer with HPOJ, even if you do not want to scan. Only using the modified USB printer.c kernel module from the HPOJ web site does not work with this model.
so it appears you'll need to set it up w/the hpoj driver.
good luck.
