HP Linux Support

After trying to find out how to get an HP scanner working under Linux, I tried asking HP if they had a Linux driver. To my surprise, the answer (in e-mail and from a live person) was that "we are working on it."
I am not necessarily surprised that they are working on it--only that they would acknowledge it.

Can anyone confirm or refute that some day soon HP will offer linux SW for their scanners?

(My particular question to them was for a 5550c.)

You can look at the SANE project to see what Linux drivers support your scanner.

Been there--done that. Also checked Vuescan. Their story was that HP refuses to release the needed interface specs.

The real question is what will HP do? At least Epson cooperates with the Open Source world.

Also pleasantly surprised that Vuescan supports my Minolta 5400 film scanner.

Hi all,
I've installed Suse 9.3 and I've tryed to config my scanner HP Scanjet 3530. My distro provides sane package but it can't set properly my scanner.
I'm new to linux, and I don't know there are other drivers suitable for my scanner.
Any suggestion?

Thanks in advance,
Enrico

First, check the SANE website to see if they advertise support for your model.

You may also want to consider Vuescan: You can download free trial version, which includes a supported hardware list that is more current than what is on their site.
