Hi ferrari, thanks for persisting with helping me solve this problem.
Unfortunately, I do not have any iterations of Windows so I cannot try the options kindly suggested by other members.
I hope the following outputs can give you an idea of what went wrong, what I've done wrong and what I should/shouldn't have done.
showed that the printer's connection is "direct usb". On my computer's System Settings\Printers, it showed that the printer is "connected to local host".
output was:

output was:

because I've tried to print a test page twice but the printer never managed to print.
I installed 3.17.10 printer-driver-hpcups and hpijs in Synaptic thinking that these may be the missing filters. But it was of no use.

Following is output from hp-check. The code which I highlighted in Bold Red asked me to reinstall hplip. Version 3.17.10 came with Mint 19.3 out of the box. I never needed to download & install. But I downloaded and installed hplip-3.20.11 this time. A test page cannot be printed

For future reference, please just post the command and output as it came from the terminal. Enclose within CODE tags (refer to the '#' button in the advanced forum editor).

Did you see my posts (and links) regarding the HP Smart Install 'feature'? If it is enabled, you'll need to figure out a way of disabling it first. Take the time to read the linuxquestions thread I linked to.

This is not a good sign either

The suggestion is to reinstall HPLIP. I would make sure that you stray with installing/using the version that your package manager provides. Since you are a Mint user, consider casting your support net wider by posting in the LM Forums perhaps...

I have tried to re-installed hplip-3.17.10 but a message says that linuxmint-19.3 is not supported. I do not know how to remove hplip-3.20.11
Maybe the only option is to upgrade to Mint 20 and see if the printer issue is resolved. I am not technically well-versed enough to rectify the situation I'm in right now

Based on fossies.org troubleshoot, I have followed the suggested steps. Except for a 'no' in my output instead of a 'yes' to foomatic-drv-install and fooatic-rip-hplip-install and a warning and error (see output below) my printer was detected and is idle and enabled.
Output from Installed CUPS printer queues
Code:
LaserJet
--------
Type: Printer
Device URI: hp:/usb/HP_LaserJet_Professional_P1102w?serial=000000000Q91GJ7VPR1a
PPD: /etc/cups/ppd/LaserJet.ppd
warning: Failed to read /etc/cups/ppd/LaserJet.ppd ppd file
PPD Description:
Printer status: printer LaserJet is idle. enabled since Sun 24 Jan 2021 21:44:11 ACDT Rendering completed
error: Required plug-in status: Not installed
Communication status: Good

MThe printer language you kindly shared sounds totally foreign to me. Out of my depth. Unfortunately, too complicated for me to understand. Maybe reinstalling the OS is the only way to get the printer going again. It has always printed without any problems except.
Any help in the meantime would be welcome and hugely appreciated.
Grateful to all who offered their help.
