HP DeskJet 680C

I was able to *install* my HP DeskJet 680C in Red Hat 8, but I can't print a test page. I used printconf-gui to install, and it detected the printer, no problem, on /dev/lp0 (it's a serial port printer, I think it predates USB)

I'm using the hpjs driver, although I've tried them all. It goes smoothly, it says lpd restart succesful, but then when I try to print a test page, all it tells me is "There was an error trying to print the test page"

Well, yeah, I figured that much out when I tried to print a web page and nothing happened. Does anybody know of a way to get a useful error message, one that might give me some distant clue about what is actually wrong?

Have you set up your Web browser or other programs to use the new print setup? In Mozilla, for example, you use

lpr '-P xxx'

where xxx is the setup file name.

I can't even print a test page, though, in printconf.

RH8 does come with CUPS which is the easiest printer setup/driver.
