I have a HP deskjet 5600 and i managed to install it and get it to print. However, as it is connected through a parallel connection, it did not get automatically detected. Therefore I cannot use hp-toolkit to see ink-levels, etc. I also do not kno the printer's IP.
My question is how do I get the hp software to detect it so I can use the HP software?
I use hpijs, the one that comes preinstalled with ubuntu edgy. I wud like to kno how the hp software can recognise my printer so i can use the toolkit.
lnxmomo,
Go to the HP Linux site, HP Linux Inkjet Driver Project and get the latest HPLIP driver for your printer. Also look your printer up in the table of printers to see what tools and features are offered for your printer.

Thx guys but its not what i am looking for. My printer is not supported using a parallel but it is supported using a usb connection. Unfortunatly, i dont have a usb connection. So what i really want is that hp software detects my printer and not just linux so i can use the hp toolkit.
