I have an HP 3300c scanner....it was recognized immediately by Mandrake 9.2...haven't tried it under fedore core 1 yet...though i have the distro here..what problems are you having?

xsane is simply not reading it. it scans for devices, and then it says no devices are available

i had a problem with the usb headers at first (the plug that u put the usb cable into)..the hp 330 was one of the first usb scanners...it is not upwardly compatible to usb2 headers...try plugging the usb cable into all of your usb ports and see if that makes a difference...if it doesn't...tell me about your hardware....i still consider myself a newbie...but i might recognize the same problems that i had...
