How to Wipe a Failed Hard Drive

Just wanted to share this how-to I did on wiping a failed hard drive. I recently moved back home from Washington and along the drive something happened to my drive that corrupted the current partition settings and prevented me from repairing it or recovering any data. Since I couldn't get it to interface with my computer to get my data back, the next step was to make sure there were no traces of the data on the platters before I tossed it in the trash. I figured I'd have my wife record me demonstrating for any of you that may also have this problem.

I'd say your method does a pretty good job. Not living out in the sticks, I just use a hammer.

I would use a powerful magnet on the platters first, then whatever your weapon of choice. I would use a sledgehammer.

Another reason to just shoot!

Shooter used a lot of ammo to figure out the target rounds did more short range damage. :)

You could just take a drill to the platters but that would not be as much fun as wasting some ammo. Look at the wife's flower pot, got some good drainage now. :D

Yeah when I buy ammo for it, which is only about once a year, I buy the surplus Federal 5.56mm NATO ammo boxes. They sell 420 rounds for $160 which is a lot cheaper than if you buy it 20 rounds at a time. I haven't found a comparable deal for the 30-06 though which is why I only fired two rounds from it, :P
