How to upgrade xorg-x11 in RHEL4

I am having problems with graphics drivers for my widescreen monitor, and I think a driver upgrade would help solve the problem. Can anyone tell me how I can upgrade graphics drivers.
My machine is a Dell Optiplex 755 desktop PC. I am using a Dell E207WFP LCD display.
The machine has an integrated Intel Q35 graphics chip. No matter what I do to xorg.conf, it keeps reverting back to Vesa drivers. And I am only getting1280x1024 instead of the monitors native 1680x1050 resolution.
I downloaded the latest graphics drivers from Intel but the installation instructions which require a kernel rebuild is beyond me. Can anybody tell me how I can upgrade xorg-11. It is currently version 6.8.2. I think the latest version should help me fix this problem.

If you think that the updating X will solve, try http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi....php?p=2032176
Worked as is without problems for me and solved some issues with graphics.

But I would rebuild the kernel. The installation should have pointed what is wrong with that...

Thanks for the tip andrems.

Actually, I did try to rebuild the kernel but am stuck at the part that needs me to patch the kernel. If I remembered correctly, it says I am missing some files while patching.

So, I kind of given up on that effort and wondered if I can just update X. The reason being, when I installed FC7 on the same machine. Everything worked fine including the monitor resolution at the default setting.

Now, when I look at the link that you gave, it seems that updating X is note a piece of cake either. I will try and see how far I go before calling for help again.
