how to upgrade firmware

How can i upgrade the firmware of my wireless lan card, its a cisco aironet. I have downloaded the .img file and i dont know what to do with it. I need to upgrade the firmware because it locks my machine up everytime I put the PCMCIA card in the slot.

If you've got the firmware hotplug option in your kernel compiled then the firmware might be loaded automaticly.
Just put jour firmware in /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware and fire up the driver
