Please show the *full* output of 'LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose glxinfo'
Is this what you mean?

Code:
# glxinfo -v | grep LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose

Or this?

Code:
# set LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose
# glxinfo

I should have caught this earlier, but I guess I wasn't paying close enough attention. Basically, you have the nvidia drivers installed at the moment. And you're using an intel GPU. See a problem with that? :-)

It may not improve 2D performance at all, but that's the first thing I'd fix if I were you.

I tried to install my nVidia MX 4000 card, but it would not work. The drivers may be installed, but by PC bios is set to use the internal video (i915). In any case, I have not seen a decrease in performance with nVidia drivers installed.

It does not matter if the PC bios is set to use the internal video. 3D acceleration will not work on the i915 if the nvidia drivers are installed. Again, this may not impact 2D performance at all.

EDIT:

Also, can you explain exactly what you mean by the graphics being horribly slow?

Adam

By "horrible graphics" I mean:

If I open a browser to full screen, then open a smaller terminal, then grab the terminal by the title bar and swirl it over the screen, it will "trace" significantly. The browser is very slow to resize, and sometimes will not even scrool without jerking. Videos, or photos, of people look like topographical maps - I think this may be a gamma setting, maybe photos are pixelating?

All the graphics worked just fine when the PC was running XP.

Anyway, I removed the nVidia drivers, and rebooted, now this is what I get:

Code:
# LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose glxinfo

Well at least your 3D drivers are setup properly now, though you shouldn't be running X or glxinfo as root. Are you using firefox? It has the worst graphics performance of probably any web browser.

Unfortunately, I do not generally have the problems you described with my laptop with an intel i915 GPU, so I'm not sure what else could be causing the problems you are seeing.

Thanks for trying. BTW: I am not running X as root, I just opened a terminal and did a "su" to run glxinfo. I am running iceweasle 3.0.6.
