Question How to set-up/adjust new video card in Linux?

Upgraded my Biostar NF61S-M2B MB, which had 128MB of on board graphics, to a ATI Radeon HD3450 256MB in LM. It's an old computer but was still expecting great things with a separate card. Got the card used for $6 since its old technology but light years ahead of what I have. The detail is much improved but the color saturation is horrible, a very strong pink hue on everything which greatly distorts the color of everything and almost unusable. I tried adjusting all I can on my monitor with no success. At this point, my on board graphics is 10X better. I can't find any ATI program on my computer. Is there a way to adjust the card itself or maybe I got a used video card that works but the graphics have failed? I have free returns on the card. Thanks
Note:After testing the RGB colors on youtube, the red is like orange, the green is aqua and blue is well, not really sure. When I step up the resolution to HD, the picture detail is excellent but the colors don't improve.

Start a live Linux from CD/DVD/USB media into its GUI. If colors are bad too the Radeon HD 3450 is broken or incompatible to your Biostar NF61S-M2B. If colors looks good open a CLI window in the GUI and enter glxgears in this CLI window. glxgears opens a new window and shows three rotating gears, one red, one green and one blue in it. glxgears must run without error messages or artefacts. Otherwise something is broken or the Radeon HD 3450 is incompatible to your Biostar NF61S-M2B.

Hmm? Please post output of dmesg.

Kernel 5.4.0 is quite old, but normally it can handle socket AM2 related hardware and a Radeon HD 3450.

Lines related to Radeon HD 3450 from
[ 2.207776] [drm] radeon kernel modesetting enabled.
to
[ 3.194992] [drm] Initialized radeon 2.50.0 20080528 for 0000:02:00.0 on minor 0
looks good. Unfortunally graphics drivers don't detect all kinds of graphics card defects.

OT hint:
If you don't have a floppy drive connected to maindboards FDC disable the FDC in BIOS to avoid this error message:

-Ran LM live from USB and color's are the same orange/aqua/black instead of green.
-Ran glxgears on CLI and the color of the gears were the same off colors of the display.

Seems like either the video card is bad or not a fit with my MB then. The only other higher GPU from ATI for my MB is the HD4550 for around $9 used. As of now, the HD3450 is unusable as the colors make many apps I use too difficult to read. The on board graphics is basic but very good. Odd that the 3450 provides so much better fine detail as far as a picture, its just the colors are screwed up. Is it worth a try for the 4550 on the chance the 3450 was bad or just give up on any upgrade and just stick with what I have and use the computer until it dies? I still have an extra 2GB ram on the way which will help performance but wont do anything for the video.

If the colors don't improve no matter which cable you try, and you know for certain all cables tried are good, either the card is bad, or the socket the card is installed in is bad, or the motherboard has a problem supporting the socket properly. Try cleaning the card's and slot's connectors by removing and installing the card multiple times. Try the card in another computer, or the card from some other computer, to determine where fault lies. You can probably get your money back from eBay just by reporting your observations, unless the ad was for an "as-is" item.

There are lots of old computers around nobody uses any more. Try hard and you can probably locate a computer with a good card for free or cheap, or another PCIe card for a bit more or less than $6.

Is your motherboard BIOS the latest available?

Make sure there isn't anything in /etc/X11/ specific to configuring NVidia that could conflict with Radeon.

My HD 3450 works perfectly in my Biostar G31-M7.

I tried the putting the card in several times, cleaned the connectors, checked all the wiring and even tried a different monitor and still bad colors. I will try to get a refund. I ordered an ATI HD 4350 new in box that has free returns so if this new card doesn't work, its either a bad MB socket or Linux driver and will just return to 17 year old on board graphics as it has so far been the best picture. Odd.
