Question How to see the content of Serial Port in Linux

Hi All, how can we see the content of serial port in linux?
I am making such software that read the data in serial port, then display it to the web page, using PHP..
I design it to read the data from serial port into a text file, then let PHP read it..
Please, I need it very much.. Thanx for your attention
I am using Linux Mandrake 9.2

Well:

Code:
cat /dev/ttyS0
Would output anything that is going on with the serial port, but you would have to format it for display. It is going to come out in a jumble.

Well, i've think about it too, but some of my friends told me that we must use assembly code to access it.. :
Honestly, i was shocked with that answer, but your answer makes me feel good
But, just for make it sure, is it that simple?, i don't mean to make jokes of you, but, i really need the certainties for making me
full self confidence
Thanx very much any way
