Hi folks,

I have managed to get it to work by editing the original intrude (taking out references to the it8212 card in "script" and "loadmodules") then creating a new initrd using mkcramfs. In order to edit the original I had to mount it (cramfs file system) then copy everything to a temp directory which in this case was a ext3 file system and edit it there.
It is all good now with ide0 on the motherboard being assigned hda etc. And as hoped hotplug took care of loading the it8212 module.

Thankyou all for your valuable advice and time I really do appreciate it.

Now on to samba!

Cheers

AJ
