Question How to mount a SATA drive

All,

I am a complete noob when it comes to Ubuntu, so please bear with me. I am trying to mount a SATA drive so that I can restore the documents off of a corrupted Windows XP machine. How would I go about doing this? I have never dealt with SATA before today, and have been banging my head against the wall trying to find an answer. Thanks in advance!

I've been able to mount almost all of my additional drives from file manager the "Computer" icon switch view to places, right-click on drive and select "Browse".

That's true you should check and see if you OS has already mounted it for you. try "df -a".

Last I checked, there is a difference between NTFS and SATA. I can mount a NTFS drive, I just can't figure out the SATA part.

NTFS is file system type. NTFS, EXT, FAT32
SATA is drive type pata(ide) or sata

When I follow the link given, at the mount command it just gives me a list of the different mount options. Any thoughts?

Please check the device name. Eg. /dev/sda1. For SATA normally device name is "sda".

Do you have Icons on desktop?
My Ubuntu installation only had panels and no icons.
Everything your trying to do can be done using tools on GUI

df -a

micxz- I had to post the output of the df -a as an image because I am troubleshooting a different machine. Please see attached.

pradeepontheline- I have tried /dev/sda, /sda1, /sda2, /sda3, and /sda4. I just wanted to make sure that I covered everything that it could be.

EDDY1- I don't have any icons on my desktop.

I forgot to mention that I am running Ubuntu off of a live disk. I'm not sure if that matters at all. Thank you all in advance for your help! I have some really important documents I need to get off of the drive, and my backup failed to run the night before the crash. Figures.

There are a couple of ways to find root partition using live cd.
I use disk utility under System>>Administration>>Disk utility
