Having trouble installing a piece of hardware? Want to know if that peripheral is compatible with Linux?

Question How to monitor SMART of RAID hard drives?

Hello!
I have HP server and I created logical volumes over RAID controlle's hard drive.
But it's impossible to get smart status of hard drives:
Code:
# smartctl -a /dev/sda
smartctl 5.42 2011-10-20 r3458 [x86_64-linux-2.6.32-279.el6.x86_64] (local build) Copyright (C) 2002-11 by Bruce Allen, http://smartmontools.sourceforge.net

Vendor: HP
Product: LOGICAL VOLUME
Revision: 3.00
User Capacity: 299,966,445,568 bytes [299 GB]
Logical block size: 512 bytes
Logical Unit id: 0x600508b1001030393635463837304f02
Serial number: 500143800965F870
Device type: disk
Local Time is: Fri Nov 23 14:18:54 2012 MET
Device does not support SMART

Error Counter logging not supported
Device does not support Self Test logging
Is any way to detect smart status of hard drives in this case?

Depends on the type of hardware. Please could you tell us the name/model of your server and raid controller.

Often generic devices are created too. Something like this might work:
Code:
# smartctl -d sat --all /dev/sg3
The numbers to use depend on the hardware.

Unfortunately this command failed:

PHP Code:
# smartctl -d sat --all /dev/sg0
