How to install wireless-N adapter on Ubuntu 9.04 (WPA support)

Hello there!

I'm trying hard to get my new usb wireless adapter to work with my ubuntu desktop 9.04. I've come quite some way but there are complications that I would really appreciate help with.

From another post (http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/inde...t-1094341.html) I did the following.

sudo apt-get install linux-headers-generic git-core libssl-dev
Next, download the drivers for the tool-chain
cd /usr/src/
sudo git clone git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/mcgrof/otus.git
Time to compile the source tree
make
sudo make install
Now you can test to see if it works or not
sudo modprobe arusb_lnx
iwconfig
You should see something like this
athX IEEE 802.11-MIMO Nickname:"WAN"
Frequency:2.422 GHz Access Point: Not-Associated Sensitivity=0
Power Managementff
Okay, if you got this far, you are 90% of the way there... about where I am as well. Time to turn on the wireless for this AP
sudo ifconfig athX up
At this point, the LED will start blinking and you should be able to scan the WAN for available networks.
iwlist athX scan

Until here everything went well!

When I now to /etc/init.d/NetworkManager restart
my wireless network appear disabled in the network list. There is one network in the list enabled which is using WEP. I think this is because my network is using WPA or WPA2 and that the installed driver needs a suppleant driver to work correctly.

Here is were I need the help....

I dowloaded the driver package from DLINK
http://www.dlink.com/products/suppor...6&pv=134&sec=0

Now when I open the package I see that there is a wpa_supplicant-0.4.8_otus.tar.gz. Untaring it gives me a folder with source code...

Here is were my knowledge completly ends...

Please someone help me with this... Is there a good resource of how to this in general?

Best regards,

Niclas Lindberg

The tutorial you were using recommended not using the dlink drivers you linked to in your post. Wpa supplicant is installed by default on 9.04 I believe. You should first disable the encryption on your access point to ensure the driver is properly installed. Configuring wpa supplicant can be a pain sometimes and by disabling it you be able to ensure the driver is functioning properly. Then you can configure your encryption.
