I'v got a PCTel modem too, it's a real drag. For one thing you HAVE to be using a 2.4.x kernel. Then make sure your sources are available with all of your headers and stuff. I don't know how Fedora has this set up, you may have to download and install the kernel source your self. Then download the file pctel-0.9.7-9.tar.gz from somewhere ( the PCtel website used to have it, but no longer. I'm sure that you can find it somewhere though ) You will need to have lspci installed as well.
Although you can get the modem up and running under linux, I think that the drivers have a couple of bugs, as my connection runs REALLY slow over the PCtel, but using a diffrent modem and the same configuration I am able to obtain normal speeds, this may just be a problem with my particular setup, but if you have similar problems please let me know, it would help a lot with my trouble shooting.
