How to install lirc?

Hi,

I downloaded the lirc rpm for redhat 8.0 (lirc-0.6.5-fr3.i386.rpm) and installed it. Everything went fine. I can start the lircd but I can't use "mode2" to check if my IR receiver works. I always get the following error:
Quote:
This program is only intended for receivers supporting the pulse/space layer.
Note that this is no error, but this program simply makes no sense for your
receiver.
What is wrong? And how can I configure the COM Port etc.?

Thanx for your help.
