I am a little new to linux but im a good computer user so if you explain good to me its sure i'll understand My problem is the following : I want to connect on the internet with mandrake 9.1 using a dial-up account but my ess modem is detected as a unknown device in hardrake and what i'll like to know is how am I supposed to configure it ? What i've done so far: I have tried to make a /dev/modem directory and a /dev/essmodem directory without any result I also tried something that I dont know if it could have work mount /dev/modem in konsole. Something that I have tried tell me that etc/resolve.conf was not found or something like that could you please help me ? if you can please e-mail me to bboypl@hotmail.com thanks

You might want to check to see if that modem is Linux compatable. I built several destops using the ESS modem before I found out that at that time the modem I was using was not Linux compatable. So far after a bit of research on the web I have found that unless the modem is an ISA type there are not many choices. Not many ISA choices either, the information I came up with is that ActionTech (spelling ??) and USRobotics make modems that are good to go with Linux. I have the USRobotics modems in both of my desktops an have had no problems to date. Hope this helps you out.
