im not really familiar with optus adsl (im with TPG) but the fact that you have an ethernet modem is great and will make the job a lot easier.
look around on these forums for connecting via 'pppoe' this is what optus uses (according to a search)
you will need to configure this package to connect. sorry i cant be of any more help.
let me know how it goes
heres a link to an RPM for a pppoe client
ftp://194.199.20.114/linux/fedora/co...3.5-8.i386.rpm

Hi,
I have Fedora Core 2 installed on a laptop, and it picked up the ADSL connection (iiNet through Telstra) without any trouble Is the problem that you cannot connect at all, or is it failing to make connections to certain servers? If the latter, I may have a solution.

can you tell us what you have done? as long as your ethernet card is detected you should be able to access the modem

Hi Cadj
thanks for getting back to me.
So far have set up xDLS connection (do not use T-online) and come up with Fig 1
Can't put imiages in here, so in network connection box I have the following " inactive PPPo bagofrats xDSL"
Have checked Hardware and got "Ethernet status OK".
Ran Activate and after a while got the following error message:
/sbin/asdl-start: line 217: 4290 Terminated $CONECT"$@" >/dev/null 2>&1
I have not put any other information anywhere in this area.
Hope this means something to you it's double dutch to me. Does this help.
Thanks
Grant

I have found the answer. just make sure that your Optus is connecting through the eth0 first and then follow the instructions at
http://www.cs.adfa.edu.au/~gfreeman/optus-linux.html
Thanks for your help with this and especially cadj.
Have a good one people.
Thanks
Grant

ADSL - Optus
I have a dual boot system, the Optus modem was already connected via the network card (and an 8 port switch) in W98, when I added a new Linux partition it found the ADSL modem via eth0 no problems. Trouble is now, if anything did go wrong I would have to connect direct to the modem and try and replicate the prob in W98 before I could get any help from Optus.
