How to Install a Samsung CP510 Laser printer in SuSe 9.3

Hello all.

I am trying to install a Samsung CLP-510 color printer to my computer running SuSE 9.3 Professional. I have tried using YaST, but with no success. The ppd file that comes on the install cd has problems. I get an error saying that there is an asterisk missing on line 89 when I try to install using that file. I have tried removing the blank lines from the file, but to no avail. I have tried running the setup.sh as root after "chmod +x setup.sh" but that has not worked either. It goes through its mysterious process and then says that I should run linux-config. When I try to run linux-config it starts up, and then asks me for a password if I want to change anything (this is while I am logged in as root as well) but when I provide my root password it refuses to accept it. This may be a separate problem, but it is still an issue that I should resolve (with your much appreciated help) as soon as possible.

As a bit of a newbie, I am not sure if I am missing something obvious or not. I would appreciate any help that you could provide as I try to learn more about this version of SuSE and expand my general knowledge.

If there are other details that would be useful, please let me know.

Thanks very much.

Regards,
Trukero

Hi regard me as newbie to Linux and i,ve read the link above regarding the CLP-510 problems but most is above my level at the moment.

Runing Mandrake 10.0 printer connected to my network, and i have the same problem after install the, installed printer software refuse my root pasword. also tried to install the XEROX-6100 wich is the same printer but same result.
and trying to add printer through Mandrake default (CUPS i belive) doesent work since the PPD file isnt accepted and CPL-510 isnt on the list. the printer autodetedcts by CUPS anyway.

Isnt possible to get this printer working under Linux?
Will uppgrade off CUPS, download from CUPS homepage help?
Is working drivers available on the CUPS CD if bought?
Will uppgrade to Mandrake 10.2 help?

Yes i know was an idiot not checking the forums regarding this printer before buy, thats what you get when you trust specifications.

Please help
