how to have sound from the monitor?

I have a new PRISM+ monitor that comes with a speaker.

I cannot play music on CentOS7 but OK on Rocky 8.

Under Settings -> Sound, CentOS7 shows only 1 entry, which is
Headphones Built in Audio

But Rocky Linux 8, there are two entries. I think one is
Headphones Built in Audio
and the other is
HDMI/Audio or something (cannot remember exactly).

The lspci output on CentOS 7 and Rocky Linux 8 are as below.
Question: What is missing on CentOS 7?

On CentOS 7:

I diff the audio part: Rocky Linux 8 has snd_sof_pci_intel_cnl

Could it be the reason?

Simply put, the HDMI cable is supposed to transfer the audio output to the speaker in the monitor but somehow CentOS 7 cannot handle it. Well, may be it is too old
for this kind of stuff. Rocky Linux 8, Debian 11, Ubuntu 20.04 all work fine. I think I can still live without the audio. If I really want, I just plug in the headset.

If its only the kernel module that is not enabling hdmi you have a couple of choices.

1) compile your own kernel from vanila kernel from https://www.kernel.org/

2) as that can be time comsuming you could try a liquorix kernel (originally designed for debian systems) but there is project that might work for you here
https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/co...ce/kernel-lqx/

I run debian and have never run centos or centos based distros so YMMV

CentOS puts very little to no effort in multimedia development/support. It is Red Hat OS's flagship development OS, Red Hat is designed for business, not gaming.
Hardware support is mostly developed through Fedora as far as I'm concerned, CentOS is more focused on software and networking hardware etc. the type of hardware home users don't use.

For me, CentOS is not shiny, but it is mostly functional in most parts (if by chance it works). After all, it is an improved version of a slightly older Fedora.
E.g., the new thing like Adwaita-dark mode seems cool, but I have to change back to the default mode since I cannot see the output clearly in the difference in the meld program
due to the color coding (do not even want to fight this war). Well, we learn to make compromises in life.
