how to handle dongle on parallel port

Hi,
anybody has experience on how to handle parallel port dongle on Linux ? I've installed RedHat Ent. on my PC but the system doesn't seem to recognize the dongle.

I'm using a DALLAS DS1410 device.

Thanks in advance for any suggestion.

Pietro

I don't know about RH specifically, but on many distros the parallel port is disabled by default. Try;

#grep parport /proc/interrupts

If this gives no output, either the system isn't configured to use the correct interrupt (normally IRQ 7) or the parallel port drivers aren't loaded.

Look in /proc/modules for parport and parport_pc modules. If they're not there they may be compliled into your kernel. At this point youl'll need to refer to the RH documentation.

Good hunting.
