To "which adb" I received nothing. The website you mentioned presents
numerous options...not clear what it is I'm looking for. It "took a
while" because there were many suggestions!
Let me know what I'm looking for as there are many variations it seems
to choose from. Thanks!
Very helpful! Okay, so once you have all that installed, how then
does it apply to connecting desktop with android device? Where do
I find the android/ Linux connection? Thank you for the assistance!
Well. On kernel 4.10. On my 32 bit Antix 15 install < debian squeeze base >. I installed gmtp. Plug my android device in. Which is a samsung s7 edge. Setup the phone settings to accept and use usb cable sync. Say yes. Trust this device. Open gmtp. Transfer stuff after hitting the button on gmtp to find my android device.
But. I was under the impression ondoho was coaching you through some steps. So I would follow him on how he is leading you and post back the commands he gave you.
Because I don't even know if you have mtp protocol installed on your android device or not. So my post may be a moot point.
Sorry!Yes, this gets confusing. I was addressing the comments made by ondoho.
Thank you for your comments, rokytnji. I will try this if adb proves not to work.
It's ridiculous something like this requires so much maneuvering!
It's ridiculous something like this requires so much maneuvering!
that's mostly because of your attitude and aradoxically because of your expectation that it should Just Work.
you aren't really providing any detail about the steps you take, don't think before typing your answers.
and so it becomes harder to get it done, harder for us to help you.

you need to show us the outut of each command, and additionally some description of what you see (aafm is a graphical application).
Okay...here is something interesting. In response to *sudo jmtpfs /media/Asus* I received this:
$ sudo jmtpfs /media/Asus
Unable to open ~/.mtpz-data for reading, MTPZ disabled.
Device 0 (VID=0b05 and PID=5507) is UNKNOWN.
Please report this VID/PID and the device model to the libmtp development team
Android device detected, assigning default bug flags
fuse: bad mount point `/media/Asus': Input/output error
So device is detected but unknown? Please explain this. I now
see the Asus icon under *Home* but it does not open. Thanks.
^ the permission error is irrelevant atm.
you have to fix this fiorst:

this usually means that your device is newer than the database of known android devices.
you have to add it to that database somehow.
search for UNKNOWN here, it says how to do that.

Alternative: use adb instead of mtp:

you managed to install aafm and adb with the commands i gave you, but you don't know how to provide command output?
