How to get "BOOT" config for Mandrake 9.1

Trying to get Adaptec 1200A ATA raid and mandrake 9.1 to work I checked out sharkys page
http://www.terra.es/personal2/capullator and following the instructions there to try and get mdk9.1 installed on my system.

Need to build a) normal runtime kernel (done) and b) boot kernel similar to what sharky did for 9.0 so that you boot from that kernel on a floppy and install straight onto the RAID via SCSI emulation.

Can someone point me at how I can get the .config for the "BOOT" kernel that comes with mdk 9.1 ?

As a complete newbie to this I've RTFM on how to make boot disk etc - plan to hack one together from the images supplied on the 9.1 install cd. Adding the hpt37x2.o driver for the Adaptec card all i need to do now is build the boot kernels.

if i get these working will put them up on web for others to use.

it may well already be at somethign like /boot/config-2.4.20, if not, install the mandrake kernel source rpm and check for .config in /usr/src/linux

Yes,

I have both of these. Is this the SAME config as is used for the kernel in the BOOT images on the CDROM that are used in the install process. This is the config I really need the one used to make the installation kernel included on these disks.

Thanks

Ian

no it won't use the standard kernel just for installation. but that config file will be used on any boot disks you would create by mkbootdisk or any other means

Please excuse newbie, but ....

isn't the kernel that is taken by mkbootdisk or make zdisc the one that is /boot on the current root system ?

I'm assuming that this is different kernel from one on boot images supplied on the cdrom for use during the install process.

I'm trying to build a replacement install disc to incude support for the hpt370 chip set used on the adaptec 1200a raid card.

The files supplied by sharky work fine in 9.0, but there are several 9.1 packages that I need and when I try to upgrade these on top of a 9.0 system it breaks, thus I'm trying to make my own files for 9.1 similar to what shark did for 9.0.

Need 1) installation kernel and initrd (which is what I need the "BOOT"/install config for)
and 2) normal use kernel and initrd (which I think I have build OK so far, but can't test without 1)
