How to force X to use agp 2x instead 1x?

Hello friends,
I have built dri for my s3 pro savage ddr and it rocks. For example I have my quake3 at 45~50 fps! There is 2 problem that I can not solve them:
1. X loads while it says: using agp 1x mode...Whereas actually my card provides 2x mode too.
2. while I have set in bios 32768 KB for sharing memory for graphics card, it only uses 16 MB. Setting "usebios on" in XFR86config doesn't work. Also setting VideoRam 32768 in my X config doesn't work.
I have searching via google but no one seems to have this kind of problem.
Thanks very much in advance, every user...

The AGP2x problem is more likely to be related to the motherboard side of things than the graphics card, assuming that the driver supports AGP2x.

Does your motherboard support AGP 2x? If not, then you won't be able to use it regardless of what your card supports.

Also, check that you have the right kernel modules installed for AGP support for your motherboard and graphics card.

It's very hard to tell why it's only using 16Mb of video RAM rather than 32Mb without digging down into the details. It could be, for example, that your card only supports 16Mb for the purposes of hardware acceleration.

Thanks alot for your reply,
But I should mention I am not newbie to linux and I know all about my motherboard and what it supports. I had built this dri for my savage card before and that worked perfectly. Now the problem I think is related to agpgart and via-agp which this new snapshot of dri can't handle them good (just a guess).
Any way this is my hardware spec:
via km266 with integrated s3 prosavage ddr
512 Mb ram
amd athlon 2000+
...no need to other spec
And I use Yoer.

Thanks alot again for your kind and usefull reply,

X defaults to AGP 1x for all cards. To change that, add the following to the "Device" section for the S3 card:

Option "AGPMode" "n"

where "n" can be "1"," 2" or "4" for 1x, 2x or 4x resp.

For the second question: according to your log, the card is using 32MB video RAM as instructed. The 16 MB you saw is the AGP aperture. To change that one, add

Option "AGPSize" "n"

to the S3 "Device" section, where "n" is "16", "32", "128", ...

Thanks alot to all of linux fans!
Thanks alot! Thanks alot! Thanks alot!
Thanks alot! Thanks alot! Thanks alot!
Especially to you R6Sven...
Yeah..It worked! The first issue i.e agp 1x solved and now I use Agp 4x in my X. Great thanks.
The second issue was just a misunderstanding. I don't know why I couldn't be notified it is using 32 MB Ram (It was about agp size not videoram) but any way by your second reply I could set my AGP aperture to 64. Have a nice day all!
Again I thank you R6Sven.
Cheers,
