Hey Guys Hi New here - hope you'll be patient with me.
Don't know if I should have posted this in s/w actually - sorry - already off to a bad start ;-)

I've installed Fedora Core 5 on an old box fine. I'm trying to install it on a Dell box which i've connected to my Phillips HDTV - well its fun using the picture in picture functionality and means i didn't have to buy a new monitor.

When I install using the gui it gives me a blank screen. Its fine if I do the text install. I'm thinking it can't probe the hardware and work out what to set the horizontal and vertical rates.

I don't think this info is in my TV manual.
I'm running win XP( - lol) on the box at the mo but I don't think the info is shown there either. The version of knoppix I tried didn't help either nor did sisoft sandra.

Anyone have any other ideas to find out what to try.

Yup, that's how I found it.

I've since discovered that hdtv supports a vertical refresh of 24, 30 or 60 hertz. This seems to be a standard, rather than related to any particular model of tv.

I didn't find a specific hsync range (I guess that's too technical for most hdtv sites ), but looking at the modelines in that gentoo wiki, ~33-45KHz (at least) seems to be a commonly supported range.
