how to enable 3d aceleration?

hi. i didn't know whether to post this in hardware because it relates to the video card or software because im trying to accelerate to enhance improvement. Whenever i've tried to play Tux Racer it is very slow. I figured maybe i need to enable 3d aceleration. However i am not sure how to do so or what components i need. I've looked a little into it and stuff like dri and mesa comes up. Doing a seach for dri comes up with this:

find / -name [Dd][Rr][Ii] 2> /dev/null
/usr/X11R6/lib/modules/dri
/media/slave/dev/dri
/media/slave/usr/X11R6/lib/modules/dri

*note /media/slave is a mountpoint i made for hdb that i don't use often.

i did lsmod to search for dri but didn't see it and tried to modprobe it but it said something like module doesn't exist.

this is my card info from lspci

01:05.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation NV11 [GeForce2 MX/MX 400] (rev a1) (prog-if 00 [VGA])

Memory at 88000000 (32-bit, prefetchable) [size=128M]
Capabilities: [60] Power Management version 2
Capabilities: [44] AGP version 2.0

can anyone point me in the right direction? thanks for any replies in advance.

You should install the nvidia driver :

and update your xorg.conf
