how to disable sata detection ?


i have an abit nf7-s mb. it has 2 sata hard discs support. i have only 1 disk on /dev/hde , but my linux, when i start my computer, is trying to detect and /dev/hdg also . as i dont have such, linux waits maybe 20 sec until it timeouts, and then continues loading os. how could i turn off this detection every time i start my computer ? my os slack 9.1

Hi and welcome to Linux Questions.

You should add "hdg=noprobe" to the options that are passed to the kernel when you boot. You do this in your bootloader configuration. If you use Lilo, add this line to /etc/lilo.conf:

append="hdg=noprobe"
and then run /sbin/lilo to apply the changes.

If you use Grub, simply tack on "hdg=noprobe" (without the quotes) to the end of the kernel= line and that should be it.
