do you have another os to try (windows, or boot from external CD)? When did you clean it up last time?

yes, i do have other OS's. And temperature remains around 52 in Windows. A year ago.

a year ago? it means nothing. your dell may swallowed a lot of dust and now cannot get enough fresh air. You can check it probably from bios also (if it has a temp monitor)

At first I would switch the nouveau driver with the proprietary Nvidia driver, since the nouveau driver currently lacks proper power management. This should give you a good improvement. Then check if you have a the ondemand governor set for CPU frequency scaling, so that the CPU clocks down properly (and more important adjusts the voltage to save power).
