Introduction to Linux - A Hands on Guide
This guide was created as an overview of the Linux Operating System, geared toward new users as an exploration tour and getting started guide, with exercises at the end of each chapter.
For more advanced trainees it can be a desktop reference, and a collection of the base knowledge needed to proceed with system and network administration. This book contains many real life examples derived from the author's experience as a Linux system and network administrator, trainer and consultant. They hope these examples will help you to get a better understanding of the Linux system and that you feel encouraged to try out things on your own.

At 1280x960 I'm at 75hz and at 1280x1024 i'm at 85hz. I need to run at 60hz for both of these resolutions. The reason is that this is a fairly old but good quality monitor 22" CRT, but if it displays anything other than 60hz these days the screen is all shaky and kind of blurry and really irritates my eyes. I can't seem to force it to 60hz. You can see the modifications I made to both monitor sections. Is there some kind of auto-detection that is overriding my manual changes?
Just a separate issue: When I play tux racer for example, it changes my res to play. Then when i quit it attempts to change it back, but it changes it to 1024x768 with a desktop larger than the res (my 1280x1024 i suppose), i have to kill X and restart it to have it display right again. ctrl-alt+ and minus don't help.
