How to attach 3-4 large SATA drives to an old motherboard

Hey guys,

how would I be able to attach a few SATA drives to my old K7S5A motherboard. I've got a little webserver running Ubuntu at the moment that I'd like to turn into a file server.

Currently I'm running this from an 80GB PATA drive and I would like to keep it that way since it seems to run reliably.

How can I add SATA drives to this setup? Via PCI extension card? Are they well supported?

Mind, I don't need RAID, I'd just like to make use of the SATA drives lying around for a fileserver

thx,
Boss

I'm using a Promise SATA 300 TX4 with 2 Seagate 250GB drives--no issues with any Linux so far.

I just wanna ask the same question. Have an old motherboard with only ide controller. Which PCI SATA controllers would you recommend working with vanilla kernel? (not very expensive, not raid)
Thanks for Promise SATA 300 TX4.

Not sure what you mean here. The kernel has to have SATA support
