I am trying to mount a Buffalo BR-816SU2 external Blu-Ray RE drive on a machine running Fedora 10, which detects the drive as /dev/sr0 (and the main DVD drive as /dev/sr1), using either eSATA or USB, but I am having trouble finding mount options that work to mount it. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Buffalo Technology says it does not support Linux and removed a message to their forum similar to this one, so I can't expect much help there.
It will be important to have BD-RE support so I expect someone to have or be working on a solution, but a search does not reveal any so far.
What happens when you try to mount it? What commands have you tried?
My understanding is, that at least in newer kernels, Bluray drives are handled no differently from standard CD or DVD drives. All of the userland applications have been updated for BR compatibility, so there should be no functional difference between using a DVD and using a BR. That said, I have never personally used a BR drive under Linux, and don't even know anyone who owns one. So perhaps the situation is not as clear cut as the documentation makes it out to be.
# mount -t iso9660 -o uid=jdr /dev/sr0 /media/blu-ray
mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sr0,
missing codepage or helper program, or other error
In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try
dmesg | tail or so
# dmesg | tail
