How Kudzu probes HardDisk

hi ,
I need complete details how kudzu probes harddisk and configures it while installation.
I will be more clear
I need to generate the serial number of the hard disk as the random numberduring installation for uniquely giving the license agreement to the user, so that a user cannot install a single cd in more than one system.
I think u got my purpose.
Looking forward for reply

Hi.

I'm not sure about kudzu, but try doing 'hdparm -i /dev/hdX' as root. That will give you the serial number of the disk.

You have to be root to do anything with hdparm.

Try '/sbin/hdparm -t /dev/hda'
