I use a Linksys BEFSR41 Etherfast® Cable/DSL Router with a 4 Port Switch connected to a cable modem and connected to a linksys VOIP adapter. The VOIP adapter is connected to a phone.
I am on a PC using Ubuntu 8.04 Linux.
I had some probelms recently with my VOIP service and it maybe the case that I have to update the firmware on the router above. The only way to do that according the company web site is with software for windows or the mac.
I have one of those, and I believe you can update it from a browser, can't you? In fact, can't you tell it to look for new firmware itself? I'd have to pull out the manual, as it's all put away since I got U-Verse.
You might give it a shot. Open a browser, and for the address, type in the IP of your router. Chances are, it has a web-based interface with lots of options for configuration. One of those options is likely to be a firmware update. And while you're there, change your password if you haven't already. If it's still the default password, I and about 50 million other people know what it is....
