and start ur named service
You dont really need to have named or your own DNS server...i never have..

On window$ you just need to go to your ISP's web site (usually under something like Tariffs->Dialup or Broadband->Connection Settings and see what their two DNS nameservers are, then add them to your resolv.conf like:

nameserver xx.xx.xx.xx
nameserver xx.xx.xx.xx

Here is my resolv.conf: (Tiscali UK)

nameserver 80.225.253.50
nameserver 80.225.254.178

or gentoo's

Also have you tried using DHCP addresses in netconfig! this should autoconfigure your nic, IP and DNS addresses.

i think my probelm is the whole hostname thing...it says "darkstar.darkstar"...i dont have a hostname...like it says "enter E.G Example.org....i dotn have a hostname...so what do i put there in the netconfig....i think i got everything else down...i got the LISA daemon started...i think the whole not being able to make that Gateway work right because it makes it own entry is a problem...and also this hostname..i hae no idea what to put because i do not have a hostname...
