how do we find internal or external disk?


We run redhat and there are many disks show when we do fdisk -l. How do I find which one are internal and which one are external disk(SAN device)

Thanks in advance.

Command...

You could run the command "lshw" with root privileges, which will give you information about your hardware and tell you how it is seen by linux, the HDDs seen as hardware devices and as both logical devices and as partitions.

A USB HDD will be seen as a scsi disk.

lshw is not on our machine. How do we check the SAN disk? Is there any otehr command?

lshw is available from the rpmforge repo.

The mount command will give you a lot of information about what is mounted(assuming the mount points are descriptive).

The SAN...

Since "lshw" reads the information that a device returns after a query, any SAN device should return enough information to allow you to identify it.

"lshw" as an RPM should be here.
