how do I monitor UPS battery?

I bought a UPS recently, an i-ball Nirantar, basically to save my hdd from power failures. I want to monitor whats the battery status, whether it is 100% or 90% or 10% or whatever. Which program do I use to do this? I have a program called Winpower for windows, there is a linux version too, but it simply says "no connection"

I installed upsd also, and it gives this output:
Code:
cat /etc/upstatus
3:3 No Connect:No Connect
The UPS is connected to my cabinet by a serial port. Any ideas?

Some ups require custom software, and their serial protocol is unpublished.
If the UPS is one of those and they don't have linux software you're out of luck.
CyberPower and APC have Linux compatable UPS, there are several others too.
Personally I like the CyberPower UPxxx series, I have CyberPower UP1200 and it works with the ups daemon.
I would contact their technical support and ask about how to use their product with linux. I went this route, calling all UPS manufacturers, and the ONLY one who responded to all my questions was CyberPower... hence the reason I use them now.

Thanks for the reply. The iBall mannual recommends WinPower software, which I'm having trouble with. I guess I'll have to try and contact the tech support.

akudewan: You should look at NUT (Network UPS Tools): http://eu1.networkupstools.org/

If your UPS is supported ( http://eu1.networkupstools.org/compat/stable.html ), then you are in luck.

One reason so many linux users buy APC units is because of the support in apcupsd: http://apcupsd.com/

NUT supports a range of UPS units, whereas apcupsd only supports APC and rebranded APC units.
