How do I install Ethernet with command lines?
I used the search but didn' find anything to help me.
First, a little background. My server is IBM eServer xSeries 335, 512 MB DDR RAM, 40 GB HDD, rackmount, CDROM & Floppy, 3 built in Ethernet ports. OS is MandrakeSecurity Multi-Network Firewall (MNF8.2) based on Linux kernel 2.4.18. I purchased MNF from Mandrake for quite a pretty penny, and got "30 days free" installation support. The trick is you have to submit an incident on line, and wait for them to reply. The paid support is supposed to be 48 hours guaranteed reply time, but I haven't received any replies since 5/11. My boss is wondering when we will have the server up, so I'm under a little pressure here. The problem: graphical installer didnt detect the network/LAN ports. I am supposed to configure the server via a web browser on my LAN, but obviously can't until I get the network installed first. OS is a bash shell, completely non-graphical, no C compiler, and my Linux command line is rusty, at best. The question: (as asked to the Mandrake "experts") Code:

update... I did some more searching and as a result, I tried the following.
In the bcm directory, I typed in "insmod ./bcm5700.o.gz" and the result was: "./bcm5700.o.gz: init_module: No such device Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters" Huh? what else can i try? |
Anyone?
Oh yes, the Ethernet is a 64-bit Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet. I have two (not three). I have the drivers but can't seem to install them. Help.
thanks... |
i'm not familiar enough with the text way to mess with networking, but i can give you a suggestion on what to try. go into the mandrake control center and check out the hardware lists and the network config. make updates for your hardware. sorry i'm not much more help than this. good luck.

See this http://rpmfind.net/linux/RPM/PLD/dis...25_2.i386.html which links to http://support.3com.com/infodeli/too...uxdownload.htm which has a link to http://support.3com.com/infodeli/too...996release.txt .
Since MDK uses a similar RPM package install, just look at the last link and take a look around. |
