How do I install drivers for a PCI intel modem in Debian?

Hi,

I'm just in the process of setting up my first linux machine. I'm running Debian 3.1r1 Sarge. I want to be able to connect to the internet using a dial up connection. I have installed an intel chipset PCI modem but I don't know how to install the drivers or configure my internet settings.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Marcus Shirley

What is the make/model of the modem?

If it's a real modem there should be no problem, if it's winsoft (probably will be) try: http://www.linuxant.com/drivers/?PHP...5255532ee0f1ff

You'll be able to identify fully the chipset there, at least.

Its a hardware based Intel modem and I don't think it's winsoft. What package should I use to put in all my settings (user name, password, dial up number etc)? I have tried wvdial but it only looks for serial modems on com ports. lspci shows the modem ok.

Any ideas?
