How do I get screen res to 1920 x 1200 in all my distros?

I have just taken delivery of a Dell 24" screen which is supposed to run at 1920 X 1200 at 60Hz. It works in XP on two PC but I would like to use it at this resolution with the following Linux Distros on one PC:
Xubuntu64
Xubuntu32
Agnula/Demudi (32 bit)
64 Studio (64 bit debian based distro
)

When I go to display settings>Screen Resultion

the highest resultion available is 1280 x 1024

64 Studio just refuses to boot up altogther, saying that I I need to adjust the screen res to 1920 x 1200 at 60Hz for it to boot up.

How can I get the Dell Screen to work at 1920 x 1200?

My Graphics card can handle the resolution in XP.

Do I need to find out more about my new screen and make the appropriate amendments to some file?

OR

Do I have to reinstall all the above distros again?

Many thanks.

you'll need to edit the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file. usually it's pretty obvious what you'll need to change, just make sure you know all the relevant info such as sync rates etc..

cheers

Thanks for that guys,

I can understand about editing the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file but how do I change the video card driver? there seesm to be no option for doing that in DIsplay setting> Screen Res.

Can someone point me in the right direction please on how to make the correct adjustments to the xorg.conf file please.

If I do change the screen driver, will I be able to use teh XP boot on this screen, probably not.
