How do I get alltel's umx evdo usb modem (mxe-610:maxspeed) to work on linux?

I am in a nursing home and the only way we are allowed to access the net is using a service such as this one from alltel. The only way I can get on the net using windows. I would really like to get out of Microsoft's clutches. Is there a way to use this modem with with Linux?

Hi Jim Benzer, Welcome to LQ. Is the device being recognized and modules loaded? Plug the device in and issue the following:

Code:

$ lsusb
$ lsmod
# tail /var/log/{messages,kernel,dmesg,syslog}

Post the results here.

What distro and version are you using?

Good luck. ;-)
