How do I ensure that linux would work on the new Dell Latitude E6400?

I want to purchase this laptop: … &s=bsd

OPERATING SYSTEM Genuine Windows Vista® Home Basic SP1, With media edit
LCD PANEL 14.1" UltraSharp™ WXGA+ (1440x900) LED Display - Brush Metal Black edit

I really want to get this laptop soon, but I'll be so irritated if I tried to install arch on it and it doesn't work. Thank you for your help.

You'll almost always have some kind of small issue with Linux on a laptop. That said, this one should be as good as any. For one thing, it has Intel graphics and Wireless. I think both are well-supported in Linux.

I own a Latitude E6400, and just today installed Debian Lenny on it.

other than me having some problems with internet (and i'm 99.9% sure it's due to router or me not being really good in network configuration) the debain installation ran smoothly.

before you download the distro you want from the web, I recomend that you find the amd64 version... this laptop can support 64bit OS.

and regardless to linux,
it's a great laptop (i have the same specs as you mentioned above)
three thumbs up

Or you could try the long way...

First you google for this machine and "linux problems", or you could just download and burn a couple of live-cds and see. The list.

Wow, thanks guys. I am surprised that someone dug up this thread after all this time. I'll certainly install arch on it over the summer if I have time.
