How do i disable a "broken" pointing stick on a Compaq Armada M700?

Hi

I have a laptop (Compaq Armada M700) with a broken "pointing stick" (the mouse is traveling). Is there any way to Only disable that input device?
I only want to use a ordinary PS/2 mouse.

I am suspecting that my PS/2 ordinary mouse is using the same kind of drivers as the pointing stick, that way i cant disable just the pointing stick... or?

Would i solve the problem by buying a cheep USB mouse?

i'd scan though your xfree config file and see if you can comment out any of the mouse/pointer sections.
