How do i access my primary xp drive ?

I have two 80gb drives. The primary has xp on it and the slave has ubuntu edgy installed.

I did a basic install with ubuntu and have the choice of booting XP or ubuntu at boot time.

My question is how do i access my primary drive with XP on it from from Ubuntu slave drive ?

I dont see anything in /etc/fstab.

Also when i go to my computer on xp i cannot see the slave drive, however if i go to disk management I can see the second slave drive.

You need an entry in /etc/fstab for whatever that drive is; e.g.,
Code:
/dev/DRIVE /MNTPOINT ntfs ro 1 0
Where
  • /dev/DRIVE is your XP drive (hda1, maybe).
  • /MNTPONT is the mount point for it in Linux (create one; e.g., mkdir /fat-c).
  • If XP is ntfs (probably is) leave that be.
  • Don't try to make it writable -- probably cause grief you don't want.

There is a recovery partition on my xp drive and i think xp is installed on the seconds partion, so assuming this is correct my xp would be mounted from ubuntu as follows ?

/dev/hda2 /mnt/dir ntfs ro 1 0

thanks for the help ill try the above.

Ok i have made a directory /mnt/windows and i have mounted my windows drive and see and access the files from the command line as root, which is all good and fine.

But when i go to nautlius and go to the location /mnt/windows it says i dont have permission, so i changed the the permissions of the file to chmod a+r /mnt/windows (everyone has read access...right?) but that didnt work ?? and when i did a ls -l on the /mnt/windows directory it still just showed root woth read and execute permissions *only* ???

I then chowned the windows directory to me (as opposed to root) but this didnt work either ??

Can you tell me how i can access the windows drive from nautilus ? what am i doing wrong ?

cheers.

just a thought, you did unmount the drive before chmoding and chowning it hey? sounds silly and you probably did have in unmounted, but i heard this exact story recently and that was the cause.

p.s, did u fix it already?
