How can you use a Samsung SGH X630 mobile as a bluetooth EDGE modem?
I am new to Linux (well almost! :newbie: ) I have a dual boot system and use OpenSuse 10.2 along with WinXP (SP-2). I have a COMPUSA USB Bluetooth Adapter and Samsung SGH X630 mobile that supports EDGE support provided by my mobile operator (Grameen Phone, Bangladesh). I have the unlimited Internet facility. I used it in WinXP with Samsung PC Studio to browse the Internet, now I want to try it in Linux. How is this possible?
Here are the settings for every Grameen Accounts: APN:gpinternet Phone No:*99***1# User Name: gpusr Password: gppass Please help we with this :Pengy: |
First point there's no need to post username and passwords its not going to help getting it to work.
Second have you managed to get the phone connected via bluetooth in Suse, does it show up in the hardware manager? |
Well..regarding the first response.. it does recognize the Bluetooth adapter and I was able to import pictures from my mobile to PC on a trial and error basis using KDE's Bluetooth application, but  I was not able to determine how to use it as a modem.
Is there any better way to do it using Suse's Own configuration tool..(I don't seem to remember it's name..It's not KDE's Control Panel)..? Please help.... |
Well... perhaps any one can help me to set up the mobile as an EDGE modem using it's data cable. How can I do it? Pleaseeee help me.....Pleaseeee..

Ok... I guess it is self help time  I may just have the thing to solve my problem. This thing is known as GPRS Easy Connect, I just downloaded it from http://www.gprsec.hu. Lets see if I can solve my own problem.

Having been inspired, I've just managed to get my SGH-Z400 working as a GPRS/3G modem to connect to the internet via the data cable, i used these instructions http://linux.mikeasoft.com/zaurust610orange.php. This is for Orange UK tho, so you may need to change things.

have u used wvdial to connect.and also tell wheather u want connection through usb cable or over bluetooth. if u use usb cable then simply follow these steps.and one thing more whenever u r in some problem in linux.dont suppose any software will solve the problem(90%).Linux is very intelligent system and most problems can be solved easily after getting knowledge about how a particular software works.internet connectivity is not tough even without wvdial but m using it here jst considering tht u seem knowing very little n too scared. 1.connect phone to usb 2.login as root and issue command wvdialconf(or sudo wvdialconf if on ubuntu) it will scan ur system to find out any modem.if it is able to detect modem go to next step otherwise post here. 3. edit /etc/wvdial.conf replace username, password, phone and Init2. {Init2=AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","youraccesspoint" save file and exit 4.issue command wvdial see thro messages n hope connection =================== #wvdialconf edit date #wvdial ========================= |
