How can I prevent my FC6 from disabling irq7?
I have just installed Fedora Core 6 on my machine. It's a ...
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/d...=44703&lang=en and I have upgraded the memory to 2 DIMMS of 1024Mb. The problem is that my irq #7 keeps getting disabled, and I have to use the kernel boot option 'noapic' at startup. I have discovered that the irq #7 is associated with my usb, which prevents me from using usb devices. 'dmesg | tail' output: Code:
irq 7: nobody cared (try booting with the "irqpoll" option) |

I'm having the same problem with IRQ #23. This seems to be my ethernet card. Ethernet will work fine until I get the following error. Kernel: disabling IRQ #23 I'm searching the forms right now for some clues. Wedge |
RE:
I have tried using 'irqpoll,' but then, I couldn't use the 'noapic' option at boot-time. It's just frustrating.
So, no, I haven't solved the problem nor have I found anything new about it. |
It seems the kernel crashed at that device, but the kernel continue loading with out USB support.
Try using Knoppix to test USB. If it works, then it is Fedora. If Knoppix has problems, update the BIOS or get Compaq/HP to replace the notebook. |
RE:
I have used KNOPPIX on the laptop, and it works fine. Although, there is some problems with the Touchpad, but I can work around that using a USB mouse OR being a keyboard cowboy with all the fancy shortcuts.

If you still want to use Fedora, update the kernel. If the update kernel still does not fix the problem, complain to Fedora's developers.
I suggest use Gentoo or Slackware. |
I believe that I have updated the kernel but the problem remains.
I have tried to use Gentoo, but it really requires a dedicated ethernet line, which I don't have. I don't have too much of a problem with Slackware. I just don't actually have any Slackware presently(of course, I can download it). |
Thanks for your help. I have updated Fedora Core 6 to kernel-2.6.22. It has resolved the irq issue; however, it has brought up a new issue. My wireless tools package is outdated and incompatible with the new kernel. But at least, it doesn't spook me with irq issues:-D.

Gentoo does not require a dedicated Internet line. Select the CD or DVD with source packages on the discs. Gentoo gives you an option to get the portage snapshot and distfiles your self or let it do it.
