Question how can I physically locate harddisk in a Softraid

Hi all

I have a Linux Softraid level 5 on 4 harddisks (SATA).
Now I want to be able to tell in a case of failure, which harddisk has failed and which one I have to replace.
Funny enough, the system will tell me which one that is (sda sdb or whatever), but I have not found a way to find it physically in the computer.
Harddisks used to have LEDs attached to them, showing activity. This seems no longer the case.
Does anybody have an idea how to locate a disk like this? (attach a led and make it light up with a program?)
I used smartctl to run a long test on one, figuring that I could listen to it with a doctor's stethoscope, but they are so silent that I cannot tell which one is which.

Nowaydays, that computer have so many SATA ports on the mainboard, it should be possible to tell which one is which.

thanks for any pointers

Markus

Your main board should have some label like sata1, sata2, sata3 and sata4. They should be associated as sata1=sda, sata2=sdb, sata3=sdc and sata4=sdd.

Hope this help.
