Put the cd in and reboot. All going well, it simply should show up as an option to partition and install to during the setup procedure.

Cheers,

mj

How do you know that the new hdd is working ? Have you tried a 'live' distro, or installed/inflicted windows to it ? Is it new or second hand -- if not new, are there already partitions on it ? Can you access it from your current setup (Slackware, presumably) ? If you can, then what is the output of (as root)
Code:
fdisk -l /dev/hda
fdisk -l /dev/hdb
Cheers,

mj

Look, we really can't be of much help if you give so little information as to your current setup, (exactly) what you've tried and the results of each attempt.

What exactly does this mean ? If you can boot into it, then something is there. For an explanation of what a "live" distro is, see www.knopper.net/knoppix.

During the installation, you will probably need to use either Disk Druid (or similar, depending on the version of RH you're using) or fdisk to create new partitions on the second hard drive (hdb), and format them as EXT2 (or EXT3), in addition to a swap partition. Once you've done this, you should be able to mount them as normal. How you partition your system is entirely up to you -- there are many ways to do it; but if you're simply wanting something to get up and running soon, then just use two partition as follows:

EXT3 Mounted as \
SWAP Mounted as swap (strangely enough)

There have been stories of problems installing onto drives that have had WinServer2003 on them -- if this is the case, then you may need to format them first (either from windows, or any other simple utility).

Cheers,

mj

ok this is y im mad this is what i see under the driud

device START end size type Mountpoint
/dev/hda
/dev/hda1 1 14945 117232M ntfs
/dev/hda2 14936 14946 7M swap
/dev/hdc
/dev/hdc1 1 788 6181M ntfs

this is what i see im trying to put it under the 2nd hdd for RH but i dont know what to do. i tried what you said but it say no root Partition must have a / partition to install on. but i dont know which one is the other smaller hdd to mount and plus i cant mount it.

Well, assuming you mean hdc to be the second hard drive, then you'll need to remove that NTFS partition before creating two partitions as above -- EXT3 and SWAP. There should be an option within Disk Druid to do this for you automatically ("use whole disk" or similar) once you select which hard drive to use.

Cheers,

mj

No, sorry. If you have SuSE around, then it would certainly be worth trying. The installer that it uses is pretty good at autodetecting everything.

Cheers,

mj
