I know I am sounding very stupid through all of this, but what is lspci. Sorry but I do not know what that is.

soft56k = winmodem........rockwell 56kV90 software driven....

easiest solution go to local PC shop buy serial 56K modem costs about 50 bucks nowadays in australia...



soft56k modems dont have a brain as such they expect the software driver to do the job.....linux drivers were not around for any soft modems when i looked last a couple of years ago...may have changed but solution of hardware modem is better for any issues etc...

now if u are using a jsf modem

google for "hsflinmodem-5.03.27.tar.gz"

and u will get the source
compile this source and use this accordingly
and u can run this modem

i have tried the same in a 2.4 kernel but not in 2.6
